What’s a 26 year old former marathon runner doing setting the FKT on the fabled Longs Peak North Face (Cables) route? “The FKT idea is real motivating to me - it takes away external pressure, but in other ways it adds more pressure because it’s internal - it’s all up to you.” Kate Hale can run, she can climb, and she can bike; listen to her describe her future goals on Longs Peak: “I feel like I am the most laser-focused when I’m in scenarios like that, and that is a pretty addicting feeling.”

I spend a lot of time doing many things, like pecking away on a keyboard, listening to Taylor Swift, trying to get cuddles from my independent pup and boyfriend and lifting heavy things at the gym. But two issues that stand paramount are: 1) dwelling on my insecurities and 2) re-inflating my confidence and ego. […]

Flexible and stretchy fabric allows for a tight, but forgiving fit, much like the Salomon SLAB 5L packs that I've come to love. The pack is durable, but can run super hot. All in all, it's been my goto grab piece of kit for longer training runs over the last few months, falling just behind the Salomon as one of my favorites. Solid pack, very recommended! When I was a toddler, my Dad nicknamed me “Bruiser.” I broke my first bone at the age of 6, and by the time I was 25, I’d broken my wrists, collectively, seven times. I suppose you could call me injury-prone, but I just thought I was more “accident-prone.” I never really thought much of … Continue reading The Stigma of Injury →
Bethany Hughes (Fidgit) and Lauren Reed (Neon) are in the midst of a daunting project: hiking (and occasionally paddling and cycling) from the southern tip of Argentina to the northern tip of Alaska. The 20,000 mile journey is expected to take 5 or 6 years, and in this interview, they join from Medellín, Colombia, about 2.5 years into their journey. Fidgit and Neon talk about their motivation, strategies to get along with adventure partners, and Her Odyssey: a mission to connect stories of the land and its inhabitants. In today’s Company Spotlight, we feature Peak Design, a camera accessory, bag, and “carry” brand. First and foremost, though, Peak Design is a design company.
