Coros Pace Multisport Watch
Price: $300

The Coros Pace watch is a multi-sport watch from the company that first became well-known for its smart cycling helmet with GPS capabilities. The watch closely resembles the Garmin Forerunner 935 in appearance and functionality, so Garmin users will find the Pace a comfortable transition. The major difference between the two is Garmin offers more navigational features and collects more user data. For our more frugal runners, Coros’ watch is $200 cheaper than Garmin’s.

Pace sets itself apart by touting a long battery life: 30 days in regular daily tracking mode and 25 hours in GPS mode. At first look, it seems safe to say someone using the GPS a few hours each day could expect at least three days of battery life. Pace meets the standard for running watches by measuring heart rate, running cadence, step count, elevation gain and loss and calories burned. It uses GPS to determine your distance and pace, both of which seem accurate, even in off-road locations, and uses barometric altimeter data to track those hill miles.

All your data from both workouts and daily tracking mode can be downloaded onto your phone using Coros’ app, which syncs to the watch using Bluetooth. After you connect the phone and watch, you can see texts, calls and even the daily update on what’s happening in North Korea on your watch screen. (Coros cannot sync to earbuds to play music like some smart watches, though.)

If you prefer the outside world doesn’t barge in on your serene miles, you can adjust the notification settings and “do not disturb” hours using Coros’ app. The app also allows you to customize the watch’s workout screens by changing the design and adding or removing data like elevation and cadence to show the most relevant information to you.
